Hmm...

I should try sampling.

Does this mean theres a Castle Crashers 2?

Sounds just like some of the songs by Waterflame with its energetic VG melodies over a clean techno beat, got a little swing in there to getcher fingers dancin on all them buttons. Fantastic mixing, instrument choice, melody, ya i cant see anything to nitpick at at all. Good job! This song totally wins the Internets!

Sounds like Watercolor, but why did it fade out?

That line "run away from the past" me think of the line "take me out of here" from pendulum's watercolor (or is it watercolour?). plus the 2-step and the synth horn-ish lead... yea first thing i thought of was pendulum xD great job though! im not saying you copied them since by now everything has to sound like something else, there's just so much out there, but yeah. jeez this has to be my worst organized review. The only problem is that it ends at the drumstep section, shouda brought it back to the begining 0:22 then skip to 1:00 to finish the build then let it run to 1:50 maybe repeat it again and end conclusively D: so 9/10 overall +1 for my light aura so 10/10

Great song!

I could see this used as part of a video game. There was a problem with the synth that comes in at 1:22 Not that its too loud, but when it plays the bass on the deep synth and the lower freqs of the bass drum, most of the hi-hats, and the main melody disappear momentarily. Other than that, good choice of unconventional synths and... is that a pentatonic scale I hear? makes this song pretty original, good job!

MaccasEngland responds:

Cheers mate, thanks for the heads up, hadn't realised that. Sometimes have that problem when i have a big range like this. And yes i think it might be, gald you like it, thanks :) x

*ponders* interesting technique!

So you used programs to analyze the intruments that the sonic games used? how high-tech :O
If i were to make an 8 bit remix id recreate the instruments by getting a synth and tweeking it till it sounded the same as the original. repeat for all the instruments i need. I might even get multiple synths and overlap them just to get the right "instrument"... I must look into this MadTracker!

repeditive...

after about 2 min i was left wondering why the music was repeating. It wasn't, it was just really long. I was almost expecting "oh its 9000 miles, back to you" to come out of no where and change everything :3 *refferance to the song 9000 miles by Pendulum* but nope, its just the same 4-beat loop over and over with super minor changes in between. If this was a 1-2 minute loop then it definately would have gotten a higher score. The mixing was pretty good, strings were loud, but they were marked accents so it makes sence that they were. If you were to use them as a melody they would be loud but u didnt so its all good. The ending came out of no where, you could have had the strings end it with some 2-beat, conclusive-sounding, thing.

Getorix responds:

Danke :). This was the second song I created (hence the name second run) in about 2-3 hours. It originally was a 1-2 minute loop, but I got tired of having to hit play again on my player so I decided to just copied everything and pasted it to make it longer. I do admit my biggest problem is repetition but I am trying to work on that. I plan to go back and make this song better sometime in the future, and to be honest this song was made from randomly pushing buttons on my keyboard =P.

looping issue

there's a delay in the looping... if you set a metranome you can see that it has like a half a beat delay between where it should end and where it should repeat to.

Mixing issues

Overall the vocals could have been dropped a bit, madflex could have had his freq raised by like 3.5k, the deepness in his voice sounds like its spiking. The drums were mixed according to the strings, and my guess is you dropped the vocals on last, cuz the drums are super soft compared to them. If the vocals werent there then the drums would be balanced with the strings, but since they are they need to be louder by default.

fails

0:00-0:10 sounds low rez, spread out those instrument ranges, have high and low, if you put everything in the mid it sounds garbagelike
0:10-0:12 what was that? :O at least it sounded clear
0:12-end quarter notes do not a song make. you mixed it up a bit by adding some other notes but it didn't seem cohesive or logical. this section sounded low rez too

u got 3 stars cuz i didnt turn off my speakers immediatly when it turned on, it sounded like it had some sort of melody in it, and the sound effects at the begining were cool

missingo3886 responds:

note the title.
0:00-0:10 my pathetic stand-in for an intro. it's low rez because its 3 stacks rolling up slowly and my computer doesnt exactly agree with it.
0:10-0:12 4 snares and a crash my pathetic stand-in for a drum interruption
0:12-end quarter notes and some other incohesive things? the bint-nuh effect comes from a bass drum thumping at the beginning of every note.
At least you didn't just hit 0 and walk away.

Dude...

from about 1:00 on, id love to hear that as background music for a game. Like a RPG's open world theme or the theme of a town (wont really work for a battle theme, though, lol)

AdamWhelanMusic responds:

lol right! That would be amazing. If I ever get asked, i could always make a version without the beginning. Thanks!! ^_^

I like making music as a pastime. I tried to make flash once, but i learned i suck at flash the hard way. :P I always put somewhere over infinate effort into making my music and would just like to have some people recognize it :)
